Zach Maffris is a musician and composer from Orange County, California. After playing Piano in a variety of Jazz and Pop bands throughout his youth, he became interested in composing music of his own. Beginning in the Spring of 2011, Zach began to compose and produce music for the electronic band DolorSlate. After releasing two EPs with the group, Zach turned his attention to writing concert music for Piano and small chamber ensembles. He studied composition at Saddleback College from 2011-2013 before transferring to Berklee College of Music in the Spring of 2014.

During his time at Berklee, Zach devoted time to studying his other great passion: composing music for film. Inspired by the works of James Newton Howard, Alexandre Desplat, and Howard Shore, he strived to improve his compositional abilities. He learned the various techniques of film composition and began to apply them in his own pieces.

Zach's music is highly atmospheric and sonically rich in tone. He often reaches for harmony and melody within modal sources, and makes rhythm a focal point of his work. Furthermore, he combines orchestral arrangements with electronic elements to augment the acoustic aesthetic of his compositions. He believes that the music of a film should blend seamlessly with the drama; to the point that both the visuals and the music are completely dependent on one another.

Currently composing music for media, Zach remains enveloped in a variety of musical ventures. His goal, as ever, is to produce evocative music that appeals to the wide spectrum of emotions and sentiments of his listeners.

His debut album with DolorSlate Stumbling Forward was released by NoneToSilence Records in September of 2021.
